Rapids and Reds Match Up

06/04/2019

Raith Reds and Raith Rapids lined up against each other today for an U13s Fife League Club Derby game.

Reds: Ellie McCormick, Freya Raeburn, Erin Brown, Chloe Bowie, Brooke Selkirk, Darcey Selkirk, Lily Paterson, Amanda Graham, Cerys Gray, Julia Mitchell, Carla MacKenzie-Barnes.

Rapids: Codi Morrison, Morgan Young, Leila Ritchie, Lily Thompson, Brooke Forrester, Sarah Purcell, Mia Herd, Neve Goldie, Kayleigh Reid, Emma Hoggan.

As the game kicked off the heavens decided to shower everyone below, but this didn’t dampen the spirits of both sets of girls.

We were treated to a competitive game with chances at both ends and it was a game of goalkeepers on top as both Codi then Ellie made good saves to keep the score level.

Ellie then treated the crowd to a string of fine first half saves including 2 one on ones to thwart Mia.

Rapids eventually broke through when Brooke broke from midfield and powered forward and released Emma on the right to hit the byline and cut back to Kayleigh. Kayleigh swivelled and hit a first time shot low past Ellie giving her no chance.

An extremely tight fought first half finished with the Rapids defence of Leila, Morgan and Lily holding strong to protect the lead.

HT Reds 0-1 Rapids

The 2nd half was a continuation of the first as both teams set out to make chances and fight for every ball. The Reds were causing the Rapids problems as they pressed for an equaliser and producing a string of corners early in the half with blocked efforts from Chloe, Brooke, Erin and Freya.

Rapids went 2-0 in front though when Emma received a great pass from Sarah and she drilled a cross into the box for Kayleigh to hit high into the net for her second of the game.

The Reds kept pushing for a breakthrough playing some good football but were coming up against a resolute Midfield, defence and goalkeeper of the Rapids.

Rapids went 3-0 in front when Neve pulled the defender out of position with her run out to the right which allowed Brooke to lay the ball into Emma in space where she turned and powered a low shot across Ellie into the bottom right of the goal.

Just before full time Rapids scored a fourth when a Mia corner found Sarah coming in from the back right. Sarah controlled the ball on her chest and volleyed a stunning strike home.

FT: Reds 0-4 Rapids

A good game of football from both Raith teams, with plenty of positives for the club where both sets of girls showed great promise for the year ahead.
